Later he left that job to become a very popular banker in Beogradska Banka. Slobodan was elected chief of the Serbian communist party. After his takeover of the Serbian presidency in 1990, he became the president of Yugoslavia. He was the leader of Serbia, when the country went through three devastating wars, which changed the face of the Balkans forever. In 2001 he was sent to The Hague indicted for war crimes, and he defended himself against these indictments for four years. Slobodan Milošević is survived by his wife, Mira Marković, his daughter, Marija, and his son, Marko.
